About SEDI

Skill & Entrepreneurship Development Institutes (SEDI) are an initiative of Ambuja Foundation. Our aim is to provide youth with training, employment and business opportunities to help them achieve their aspirations in life, and lift their families out of poverty.

SEDI works at the grassroots to locate motivated rural youth, connect them to training that matches local industry demand, and mentor them until they settle in dignified jobs or enterprises. The model ensures that opportunities reach villages so that young people can thrive without leaving their communities.

Skilling: A National Need

  • 15 million youngsters enter the workforce every year, yet over 75% are not job-ready.
  • Only 2% of India’s labour force has undergone any kind of skill training.
  • India needs nearly 700 million skilled workers to meet the demands of a growing economy.

SEDI responds to this skilling challenge by showcasing skills as a viable, rewarding career option and channelling youth into structured training programmes that unlock local livelihoods.

The Challenges We Address

  • Jobs/Skills Mismatch: Many jobs exist, but young people lack the skills to perform well.
  • Limited Access to Training: Quality institutes are concentrated in big towns with poor public transport links.
  • Urban Drift: Youth migrate to cities seeking employment and better training opportunities.
  • Un-skilled Farm Jobs: A majority end up in insecure farm labour without career pathways.
  • Pressure on Agriculture: Shrinking landholdings demand supplementary livelihoods.
  • Lack of Trainers: It is difficult to find and retain qualified trainers in rural areas.
